What started as a hobby eventually grew into a thriving business! Years ago, we interviewed Rianna and Calvin. Back then, they were just beginning their journey into the world of laser engraving and preparing to launch their website. Today, they've built a successful brand—We Laser Art—that has truly transformed their lives.
Meet We Laser Art
We Laser Art is a laser engraving studio founded by Rianna and Calvin, based in southern Spain. The brand is known for its personalized products ranging from custom wedding items to business merchandise. Built on values of creativity, experimentation, and personal connection, We Laser Art thrives by combining artisanal quality with modern laser technology.
Begin as a Hobby
When Calvin first picked up a LaserPecker LP1 Pro during the pandemic, it was simply a way to pass the time. "I actually got it just as a hobby," he recalls. It was compact enough to fit on their kitchen counter, and what began as casual experimentation soon turned into something more.
The gifts they engraved for friends were so well-received that it planted the seed of a business idea. As Rianna remembers, "Every time we gave them the gift, they would say, 'Oh my god, this is really nice. Did you do this?'"
That curiosity and encouragement sparked a transformation. Calvin and Rianna, now the creative duo behind We Laser Art, began a journey that would see them turn a simple hobby into a successful engraving business rooted in personal connection, quality craftsmanship, and community spirit.
Starting Small, Dreaming Big
Their first project? A birthday chopping board for a friend. From there, the couple upgraded to the LP2 through a Kickstarter campaign. The improvement in power and speed allowed them to expand their capabilities.
"That was a big upgrade for us," Calvin says. "We could do a lot of our work a lot faster."
Over time, their home became a mini lab. "We used to have a walk-in closet full of different materials we were testing," Rianna laughs. Their living space became a creative playground.
And when they moved to southern Spain, things truly took off. "We moved into the wedding capital of Spain," Rianna explains. What started as personal experimentation turned into a full-fledged business. She left her teaching job of 17 years to focus on We Laser Art full-time.
"I love teaching. It was great. But I love my life now, and it's all been because of LaserPecker."

Finding Their Niche
At first, weddings were their main niche. Engraved fans, personalized gifts, decorations—they did it all. But over time, they found that high personalization demands, tight budgets, and short timelines led to burnout.
"We started to say, well, you know what? Weddings take a lot of time. So we started to focus on business merchandise," Rianna shares.
That pivot led to orders from restaurants, electric companies, and even a golf shop in Germany. "We're doing loads of projects with restaurants at the moment," Calvin adds. Whether it's engraved QR codes, coasters, or chopping boards with logos, We Laser Art has found a sweet spot in branding merchandise.

Building Community, One Connection at a Time
One thing that sets We laser Art apart is their commitment to personal interaction.
"If there's a new restaurant opening, we take them a little engraved gift," Rianna explains. "Even if they don't need engraving then, they remember us."
Their first big client? A wedding planner Rianna messaged on Instagram. "I contacted her and didn't hear back for six months. Then she asked for 300 engraved wedding fans. She's still ordering from us three years later."
Powered by LaserPecker
Each phase of their growth has coincided with a new LaserPecker model. From the LP1 Pro to the LP5, they've embraced every innovation.
"At the beginning, everything took a little longer," Calvin explains. "Now I'm able to get 100 units done in an hour and a half."
Their favorite tools include the Batch Engraving Button and the Rotary Extension. Rianna raves about the batch mode: "It changes everything. No more having to go into the phone or the computer. It saves a lot of time."
The LP5's 20W laser has opened new material options like metal and ceramic. "We didn't even know we could engrave ceramic until we tried it," says Calvin. That trial-and-error approach, combined with feedback from clients, has led to the creation of a souvenir line sold in local shops.
